Halloween Countdown Day 25

Bats tend to be among the least imaginative creatures in video games, right alongside such boring, ubiquitous fodder as rats and slimes, yet there’s something about the little touches to Charles’ design that make him so interesting. He’s an urbane bat who lives in a coffin, yet he’s no Dracula. He’s a batman, but he doesn’t fight crime in Gotham City. He almost looks like a werebat; like a cryptozoological outcome of crossbreeding a vampire and a werewolf.

Oh… oh no. This can’t be! I’ve reduced a character I thought was pretty cool into the starting point for some really disturbing Twilight slash-fiction. What have I done!?

Halloween Countdown Day 20

Here is everything I know about Dino Crisis 3:

1. It’s a video game.
2. A horror video game!
3. Dude, they got dinosaurs!
4. And a crisis, natch.
5. Presumably that crisis involves those dinosaurs.
6. But this is the third Dino Crisis game, and after two games, just having dinosaurs wouldn’t be enough, so guess what?
7. Dinosaurs in Spaaaaaaaaace!
8. People who have played this game tend to agree that it isn’t very good.

Number 8 is the sticking point. I haven’t played Dino Crisis 3 because the mere thought that I might play a game with SCARY SPACE DINOSAURS and not enjoy it is all I need to make myself cry on cue. I’m not talking about “high school actor” tears; I won’t stop sobbing until I’m fully dehydrated. I had to hook up a third IV just to type this. (I downed two bags on the animation.)

So I’ve never seen Dino Crisis 3 myself, but I know about space and I know about dinosaurs. This is probably pretty close. I think I nailed it.

Halloween Countdown Day 17

Baron von Blubba is actually quite silly looking. His movement is jerky and predictable, and he’s not especially fast. To the untrained eye, he’s not very threatening at all, and yet it doesn’t take long to learn that the Baron is one of the most terrifying foes in all of video games for two simple reasons:

1. He is immune to all attacks.
2. He can only be deterred if you complete the current stage or if he kills you.

And he will kill you. So if you hear the music increase its tempo, it’s in your best interest to follow suit.
